Hexensalbe takes its name from the witches’ flying ointments associated with medieval European witchcraft: poisonous salves said to induce trance, visions of flight and the erotic mythology surrounding the witches’ sabbath. Stora Skuggan translates that unsettling history into an equally unconventional botanical composition. Wormwood and salty liquorice introduce bitter, medicinal tension, followed by tuberose, rosemary, angelica and belladonna. Black hemlock, lichen and patchouli pull the fragrance toward darker earth and vegetation. Strange, physical and deliberately unresolved, it treats the mythology as something more complex than familiar folklore.
